”Leash”

Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and loving friend, Alicia Joy Kuhre Farley, or “Leash” as she was more fondly known, returned to her Heavenly home on the evening of November 1, 2021, from complications of COVID. Born December 9, 1962, to Donna Joy Sutton and William Newell Kuhre in Salt Lake City, UT, Alicia Joy was the second child and first daughter of four children. Raised in Cottonwood Heights and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1981, she later went on to earn her degree in Family Studies from the University of Utah. Passionate about music and particularly singing, in high school she was a part of the Acapella Choir; subsequently, she joined other choirs and most recently sang with her church choir and even auditioned for the Tabernacle Choir of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Alicia’s love of music enriched the lives of many as she traveled to Europe with her choir where she reunited with her brother, Brent, while he served a church mission in England. She provided beautiful musical numbers at the funerals of her brother, mother, father, and grandparents. Everyone loved her beautiful voice and were always in awe of her gift.

Alicia cheerfully served a mission in for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in British Columbia, Canada. She shared her love for the Gospel and the Lord throughout her life as a diligent minister to all around her and lived her testimony by her actions. She was quick to give a kind word and to know her was to know the love of our Savior. Her niece, Amber Joy Francis Davis, summed this up beautifully: "She was a light in this world. She was the most Christ-like person I'd ever met; she always knew how to make you feel better and put things in perspective. She was truly the epitome of Christ with her compassion and accepting demeanor.” She loved her nieces and nephews with such passion and kindness that they called her their ‘all-knowing Aunt.’ She was the best person to talk to and confide in and had all the perfect things to say to make life better.

Leash nurtured countless children and their parents as she was a nanny for over ten years, even traveling to New Jersey where she made life-long connections with the families she loved. As a school bus driver, she had the opportunity to interact with many children prior to starting her career with the IRS. She made meaningful connections with so many and was a surrogate mom or sister to almost everyone she met. She changed the lives of those around her with her love that knew no bounds, was fiercely loved by so many, and was blessed with so many wonderful friends. You enriched her life and she spoke fondly of you all. Thank you for loving her and know that she loved you very much.

Alicia married Charles Tinte Farley on August 12, 2000, in the Salt Lake City Temple and became an incredible and loving mom to three children, Kacey who was 12 at the time, CJ who was 11, and Kylee who was 9. She was a loving and patient mom who always made sure to express her love both verbally and physically. We could always depend on her for amazing mom hugs. She made the transition into our lives seamless. She was the epitome of compassionate parenting and, although a lot of those days parenting were difficult, she never once let her love or patience falter. We are forever grateful for the difference she made in shaping our lives to be the best they could be.

Later she would be blessed with eight amazing grandchildren, Carter, Leslie, Kalee, Pierce, Joshua, Samuel, Afton, and Ronan, who would love and adore her beyond measure and she them. Leash had an amazing gift for knowing just how to support each one, taking time to listen to and be with each one as often as possible. Each new addition to the chaos thrilled her, and she was an excellent chaos manager. One of the greatest gifts she passed on to her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren was her love of reading that she gained from her mother, Donna. She joked once saying, "Blessed are the children of the bookworm for they shall inherit the books," reflecting her amazing book collection that included her well-loved LDS Church books, fantasy, and science fiction.

There are no words to truly express all of the wonderful and amazing attributes of Alicia. She truly lived up to her name, Joy. Her home was adorned with the word, and everyone who knew her can attest to the fact that she was so full of joy. We are so saddened by this immense loss but are thankful knowing of the joyous reunion with her wonderful family whom she missed for so long. Alicia is reunited beyond the veil with her mother, Donna; father, William; and brother, Brian. She is survived by her husband, Charles Farley; children, Kacey (Steven) Norton, Charles (Leanne) Farley, and Kylee (Shane) Hunter; siblings, Brent (Miriam) Kuhre and Marsha Francis; her eight wonderful grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who she loved beyond measure. She is also survived by so many close friends, loving ward members, and amazing neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Aultorest Memorial Park.
