Allen Culpepper

April 26, 1954 — November 25, 2018

Allen Scott Culpepper passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018.

Scott was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 26, 1954 to Luther Allen and Mary Jean Culpepper. He grew up traveling the world with his military family, living in places like Arkansas, New Hampshire, Louisiana, and California.

At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army, Infantry Division, where he was stationed in Hawaii. He later returned to the bay area of California to work as a civilian welder for the military.

Scott married Linda Lockbaum in 1978 and had two daughters, Katherine (Kate) Lynn and Laura Grace. While they decided to go their separate ways, the two remained friends and co-parented their daughters with much love and support. He remarried in 1990 to Cynthia Dee Carter, and the two had one daughter, Lacy Carter.

Scott enjoyed skiing and could be found at Snowbasin Resort several times a week either working as an instructor or skiing for fun. When he was at home, he had a book in his hands with a Harry Potter or Star Trek marathon playing softly in the background. Those who knew him admired his quick wit and dry sense of humor, as well as his ability to make everyone feel welcomed and wanted. He loved talking politics, science, and technology for the sake of understanding “what’s possible.”

Being with his grandkids was always a highlight for him, be it cheering them on at baseball and soccer games, teaching them how to ski, or letting them eat all the junk food when their parents weren’t around.

Scott is survived by his wife of 28 years Cynthia Dee Culpepper; his children Katherine Lynn (and Christian) Carleton, Laura Grace (and Kail) Withers, and Lacy Carter (and Justin) Hope; and his two grandchildren Cooper Allen Carleton and Quinn Adelle Carleton. He will be missed and loved by his family and friends. Always.

The family will meet with friends on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. Immediately following, there will be an open house from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Clinton 19th Ward, 702 West 1300 North.
