Our dear dad, grandpa and husband passed away peacefully on September 8, 2011 from complications of cardiovascular disease, after 87 years of dancing, singing, laughing and spreading joy with his optimistic attitude to everyone he knew.
He was born in Manti, Utah a town he dearly loved, on June 19, 1924 to Katie Lenora Tripp and Elmer Blaine Evershed. He was the youngest of 7 children. Growing up in a large family and in rural Utah instilled in him a strong work ethic and his lifelong love of gardening, family and the great outdoors.
He graduated from South High in 1942. From 1943-1945 he served our country in WWII in France and Germany as a combat soldier and staff sergeant in the 12th Armored Division. He was most proud of his Combat Rifleman Medal. On May 25, 1948 he married the first love of his life, Dorothy Parkinson, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 5 children that brought them great joy. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in business and marketing, accounting and education. He had a varied and diverse career. "He never met a deal he didn''t like."
In 2006 he married the second love of his life Dorothy Davis.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Parkinson in 1988. He is survived by his children Jeff (Diane), Gary (Paula), Sherri (Michael Mahaffey), Patti (Clay Peterson), Robyn (Dave Kremer), 14 grandchildren, Meghann, Ali, Anna, Sarah, David, Emily, John, Dan, Tom, Jon, Susie, Sam, Nate, Jane. seven great-grandchildren, his only living sibling, June Miller of Washington DC; his wife Dorothy Davis and her children Danny Davis and Debbie Madsen.
