Allen Barrientos Field

(1954-2017)

Allen was in Utah visiting when he suddenly fell ill and received treatment. While he was staying with us to recover, he made it known that is it very important for him to make it home before Easter Sunday. It may not have been the destination we expected but he did make it home before Easter Sunday. He is now in the presence of God, spending Easter Sundays with his mom and dad. Allen died of a massive heart attack and complications from surgery on Apr 12, 2017.

Allen was born on June 4, 1954 to Edward T. Field and Leonisa Y. Barrientos in Clark Air Force Base, Philippines. He attended grade school at the Department of Defense (DoD) schools in Japan and the Philippines; completed high school at Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Journalism at the University of the Philippines. He worked for various airline companies for over 30 years, retiring as general manager for United Airlines at the Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah around 2015. He moved back to the Philippines to retire.

Among those who will treasure memories of Allen are his siblings - Harold, Rosemary, and Caroline. His sister-in-law Loling and brother-in-law Fred. His only niece Karen and her husband Richard Williamson and his nephews Kelly and Michael and Michael’s wife Thim. His grand-nephews Sawyer and Bill Williamson. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins - most of whom live in the Philippines as well as his friends from all over the world. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

We appreciate the Clinton City Fire Department, Utah Sheriff’s office, Davis Hospital staff and nurses, Neriza Oka, RN, and to Father Rene of St. Olaf Catholic Church for their wonderful services. And last, but not least, we can publicly say Thank You from the bottom of our hearts, for everything – we simply could not have come this far without you.

We do have a couple of prayer requests. First, for the repose of Allen’s soul and that he may rest in peace. And secondly, that we may all experience healthy grief, which (along with God’s grace) will – in time – lead to the restoration of our souls. In memory of Allen, we request that you do something kind for a stranger or a friend or a family member and to spread love and cheer which he constantly did during his lifetime.

To me, my Uncle Allen is like Santa Claus, he is very generous and caring of others. It brings him great joy and pleasure helping and making a difference for others. He traveled the world and shared what he experienced while he was there. He enjoyed himself and made a lot of friends. I remember that he lived in several places during his career - Utah, Nevada, Georgia, Ohio, California, Washington, Alaska, and India to name a few. He has a vast collection of refrigerator magnets showcasing his journeys. Living in India was the best job stint for him; he loved the culture and food. No American Indian restaurant we went matched the authentic and original Indian cuisine he tasted. He loved food and took pictures of them before he ate. He also loved the Cheesecake Factory. Allen always traveled with 3 luggages - 2 small ones for him and 1 very large one for everybody else. He even hand carried a large electric guitar back to the Philippines. He always brings treats and items from foreign countries he visited. When he was in Utah, my family and I met up with him for lunch on Sundays. We took a road trip together to visit other family members in Washington one beautiful summer in 2011; it was a little family reunion for the Fields. He was in attendance at my son’s high school graduation. He also went and attended my other son’s theater performance. I am so glad that my sons got to love and know their grand-uncle. Allen was truly happiest when he was with family.
