Aloa’s adventurous life began on May 30, 1934, born to J. Conan Christiansen and Lucile Morfitt in Ontario, Oregon. She married the love of her life, Nicholas Dereta on July 9, 1955. She passed away on July 26, 2016 in South Jordan Utah at the home of her daughter surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Together with Nick she sailed through a 55 year marriage taking them around the world. Along the way they raised 8 children as well as a few extra they welcomed into the family. If someone needed shelter her door and heart was always open.
Aloa had great faith and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an avid genealogist, wrote many histories and assisted countless families in connecting with their family histories.
She loved to share her testimony, knowledge and heart with youth and served in church young women’s programs for over 22 years.
Aloa’s many friends over the years have provided much joy, support and love for which she has been and will always be grateful.
She showed her children the world and loved each of them. She will be missed but is reunited with her best friend and eternal companion Nick and is off on a new adventure.
She is survived by her children: Nicholas Dereta Jr., Duffy Dereta (Ceal), Marie Harrington (David), Cherie Ushio (Rodger), Tracy Perkins (Kelly), Jaime Christiansen, Lauren Dereta, Seth Dereta (Heather), 29 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Parkway Stake Center, 9895 South 2700 West, South Jordan, Utah. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
