Alta Hale Roundy

Alta Hale Roundy passed away at her home in Layton at age 95, May 1, 2014, incident to age.

Born the third of eight children to George A. Hale and Stella Green in Afton, Wyoming on October 18, 1918. Graduated from Star Valley High School, Class of 1936.

Paraphrasing her own words: The summer after graduation I went to Salt Lake City and found work and returned the following summer. There I met a tall slender man with dark wavy hair, Kendall Roundy. We were married in 1938. We moved to Layton in 1943, living at J-13 Verdeland Park with our nine month old son, Michael. Kendall and I both worked at Hill Field and after a year and a half I quit to continue our family which grew to two more sons, Steven and Gary, and a daughter Sharee by 1954.

I grew to love Layton and have watched the community grow from a population of 3000 to a thriving city of 27,000. I made many wonderful friends in Layton and will always, as well, cherish the memory of my happy days on Star Valley. (Written in 1981)

With the children in school I became interested in PTA and civic affairs and was also instrumental in establishing the first public library in Layton, and was a librarian for the Davis County Layton Branch Library for 15 years.

In Church I served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Stake Board, Relief Society, and Mia Speech Director and ward newspaper editor.

Kendall passed way in 1976 and I subsequently married a fine man Robert Barr from Salt Lake City, in 1985.  We lived in my home in Layton on Wasatch Drive and enjoyed trips to Mesa, AZ; and St. George.

Our mother suffered a debilitating stroke in 1987 remaining aphasic and incapacitated.  Robert lovingly cared for her until his death in 1996.  The last 27 years have been a trial for our dear mother and we owe a debt of gratitude for years of dedicated care to Theone and Jane.

Mother was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings and a grandson Daniel Roundy.  She is survived by a sister Wyoma Rowe, children Michael, Steven, Sharee Colleen, and Gary, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
