Alta Luella Wroten
June 22, 1924 ~ April 19, 2019
Alta Luella Wroten, our beloved and feisty Granny, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 19, 2019. She was 94 years old. Her daughter, Judy Wirick, was there with her during her last moments.
Granny was born at home in Rigby, Idaho on June 22, 1924 to Andrew and Kathleen Jensen. She grew up on the family farm with her two sisters, Clara and Dorothy. Life on the farm and raising cattle is what made Granny so feisty. She graduated from Rigby High School one year early in 1941. She would never let her grandkids forget that she skipped the third grade! She attended college in Salt Lake City where she met World War II veteran and bronze star recipient, Jack Lee Wroten. They were married on May 9, 1946. They moved to Ogden in 1948 with their only child, their daughter Judy. Granny worked for several federal agencies, retiring from the IRS after 23 years of service.
Granny has been an excellent example of love, forgiveness, tolerance, kindness, charity, and tenacity. She survived cancer and other acute illnesses and earned the nickname “The Tough Old Bird”. Granny lived for her grandkids and great-grandkids.
She taught by word and deed the meanings of hard work, determination, sacrifice, and the importance of education. She financed her grandkids college so they “could have a better life” than she did. She even revived the family’s cat by giving it mouth to mouth. She was truly the matriarch of her family.
Granny’s final words sealed her testimony of Jesus Christ: “I get to go be with my parents.”
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and her sister Clara. Surviving Granny is her daughter Judy (Steve) Wirick of North Ogden, her grandkids, Jennifer (Billie) Andreozzi-Wirick of Riverside, Rhode Island, Tyler (Angela) Wirick of St. George, and Brady (Kimberly) Wirick of Idaho Falls, and her great-grandkids, Scott (Kendra), Brandon, Kaydon, Jack, Sam, Logan, Kellie, Katelyn, Andie, and Jake. She also had two great-great-grandchildren, Ryker and Skylee.
