Alton Child

October 31, 1935 — December 16, 2018

LAYTON – Our loving father Alton Hodson Child, 83, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018 at his home.  He was born in Ogden, Utah on October 31, 1935, to Evan Elwood and Lucille Hodson Child.

Alton spent 18 years in West Warren, UT; served in the Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict, came home and spent 19 years in Ogden attending Weber State College and working at Ogden Dress Meats.

In 1966 he was selling meats and happened upon his beautiful redhead.  He brought his brother Val to Pinky’s in North Ogden and said to him, “See that little redhead in there.  She is going to be my wife.”

So the love story began.  In the summer of 1967 mom and dad began dating and were married in December of 1967 in Las Vegas, NV.  In September 2015 their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden Temple for time and eternity.  They spent the first 20 years of their marriage in North Ogden and resided for the last 30 years in Layton.

Alton was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a life time of charitable work.

Alton retired as a Regional Manager from Conagra.  He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, VFW and Sheriffs Association.

His wife, family and neighbors came first.  He was the great provider, loved fishing, hunting, horses, cattle and coin auctions, traveling and doing puzzles.

Surviving are his step-sons, Duane E. Patterson, Johnny T. Patterson, both of North Ogden; step-daughter Linda M. (Patterson) Ciampini, Ogden; grandsons, Travis John Hudak, (Alton and Travis were like father and son), Cody Chatelain, granddaughters, Lisa, Lael, Aimee, Renee, Cassandra, K.C., Keegan, brothers, Boyd, Lynn, Wayne, Lorne, Quinn (Cheri), sisters, Lorna (Dave) Evans, Zanna Child and baskets full of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by the love of his life, Lettie, brothers, Val Child, Cloy Child, great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Steven and Hodson.
