Alven Markward Hendrickson
FRUIT HEIGHTS a" Alven Markward Hendrickson, 73, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, returned to his Heavenly Father on December 18, 2007 after a valiant and courageous year long battle with brain cancer.
Alven was born June 19, 1934 in Brigham City, Utah to Alven Nephi Hendrickson and Hazel Bodel Rasmussen. He was the oldest of four children. Alven was raised in Brigham City, graduating from Box Elder High School. Upon completion of high school, he began his college education at Utah State University. He served in the Western States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning from his mission, Alven graduated from Utah State with his Bachelor''s Degree, later earning a Master''s Degree. While at Utah State, Alven met the love of his life, Bette Ann Bosworth; they married May 23, 1957 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had five beautiful daughters who meant the world to him.
During his time at Utah State, Al enrolled in the ROTC. He was a member of the United States Air Force Reserves for 21 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His time in the Air Force took him and his family to Florida and Arizona for three years. After his time on active duty Alven became principal of schools in Franklin and Rexburg, Idaho. Eventually, Alven and his family moved back to Utah where he worked in the Davis School District as counselor, assistant principal and principal for his remaining career.
Alven held many callings and positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including two full time missions with his wife. He enjoyed fishing, hiking and camping, but the most important thing to him was being around family and friends. He was a great example to all those that knew him, touching countless lives.
Alven is survived by his wife, Bette Ann, as well as his five daughters: Julie (Mark) Johnson, Kaysville; Terri (Perry) Law, Centerville; Kristina (David) Major, Layton; Michelle (Shane) Tueller, Centerville; Alesa (Danny) Bennett, Layton. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, Betty (Ronald) Seamons, Judy (Von) Ritchie, and one brother, Dale (Loila) Hendrickson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Fruit Heights 5th Ward Chapel, 30 Country Lane, Fruit Heights. UT. Friends and family may call Friday, December 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel. Interment, Brigham City Cemetery.
