Alvenia Nunes Bunker
Alvenia "Vinnie" Bunker passed peacefully at her home in Syracuse, Utah on August 9, 2012 following a short illness discovered after she suffered a broken hip in March.
She was born Alvenia Alida Nunes, January 25, 1923, in Visalia, California to Manual O. and Alvina Deniz Nunes. Raised on a dairy farm with 5 siblings, she grew up milking cows the old fashioned way. She often shared fond memories of life on the ranch and her Portuguese heritage. After graduating Visalia Union High in 1943, she moved to San Francisco where she was a fashion model during the 1940''s. She met George Franklin Bunker in 1948 and they married in July of 1950. She and George soon moved to Chino, then a small dairy community in Southern California. In 1975, they moved to Utah. George passed in 2006 after 56 years of marriage. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Syracuse until her death. Her "country girl" roots remained apparent through her love for gardening.
Mrs. Bunker is survived by two daughters, Barbara DeShon of Hesperia, CA and Pam Weiss, of Syracuse, UT. She loved her family and had one granddaughter, Jennifer DeShon of Lake Arrowhead, CA, five grandsons, Allan (who passed in 2008), Paul and Mark DeShon, all of CA, Chris Weiss of UT and David Weiss of AZ. She is survived by nine beautiful and beloved great-grandchildren, Jourdyn, Brooklynn, Diana and Carter Weiss, Amanda and Chelsea Parker, Austin and Gavin Taylor and Royce Reese. She loved children and many more lovingly referred to her as G''ma or Grandma Great as she was dubbed by her great grandsons. Vinnie had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor enjoyed by all who knew her. She was passionate about her religious beliefs and remained faithful and as active as her physical body would allow right to the end sharing her hopes for the future with all.
A Memorial Service will be held at Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah''s Witnesses, 1323 East Gentile, Layton, Utah.
Services entrusted to Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
