Alvin Nance

Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Alvin Young Nance, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the age of 82.

Dad was born February 15, 1932 in Manassa, CO, the son of Augustus Y and Almeta Holland Nance. He attended elementary school in Colorado. Then moving from Colorado to Utah he attended North Davis Jr. High and Davis High School.

Alvin married Anna Barber, his high school sweetheart on August 16, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War where he served as a Military Policeman. Dad and Mom had five children: Valarie (David) Pollard, Syracuse; David (Chris) Nance, Tremonton; Lynda (Drew) Stagg, Fruit Heights; Carolyn (Bruce) Staley, Syracuse; Nathan Nance, Syracuse; 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; one brother, Aldon Nance; and four sisters: Annette Johnson, Susan Anderson, Judy Shupe, and Alice Davis.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in the Bishopric, Elders Quorum, High Priest Quorum, Extraction Worker, Ogden Temple Worker and as a dedicated Home Teacher.

Dad was employed at HAFB for many years. He retired and then worked at Island View School. He served as a Syracuse City Councilman for 20 years. He loved helping out on his father-in-law’s farm and could repair almost anything.

Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Anna of 63 years, his siblings: Calvin Nance, Irene Nance, Albert Nance, Anthon Nance; his parents, a son-in-law Douglas Nalder, and his granddaughter Ashley Nalder.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Spring Haven Ward, 3065 S. Bluff Rd. in Syracuse. Friends may visit family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
