Alvina "Vi" Holmes
OGDEN a" Alvina "Vi" Maser Holmes, 79, was born in Cheyenne, WY on November 18, 1931 and passed away at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah on November 7, 2011. She moved to Utah at a young age and grew up in Ogden. Vi married Charles D. "Dean" Holmes on July 3, 1948. They made their home in the Ogden area and had four children together.
In her younger years, mom enjoyed playing music and dancing in the kitchen. She also loved to bowl and participated in leagues for more than 20 years. She frequently traveled with friends and had fun gambling. Mom was also an avid Jazz Fan, holding season tickets for several years. When it became too difficult to attend in person, she watched on TV and cheered for her favorite players, even naming her favorite teddy bear Okur. She had a habit of naming other favorite items as well, like her Baba blanket, George her air tank, Princess the car, and Eunice the vacuum cleaner. Mom especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and always had a smile for everyone. All who knew her will miss her very much.
Special thanks to her son Larry and her daughter-in-law Sherrie for their patience in taking such good care of mom for the last few years as her health declined.
Mom is survived by her husband Dean Holmes of South Ogden; her children; Larry (Sherrie) Holmes of Riverdale; Rob (Sandy) Holmes of West Haven; Karen (Doug) Groberg of Farr West; and Diana (Mike) Whiting of Clearfield; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Annie Maser of Green River WY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Alexander Maser; her mother Lydia Hehr Maser; father-in-law Robert Holmes; mother-in-law Alta Homes; three brothers; two sisters; two brother-in-laws; two sister-in-laws; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved pets Brandy and Peewee.
