Amanda Marie Steilen

August 17, 1962 - December 10, 2016

Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend Amanda Marie Steilen, 54, unexpectedly passed on December 10, 2016 in her home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Amanda was born August 17, 1962 in Madison, South Dakota, the third child to Herbert Anthony Steilen and Shirley Theresa (Maher) Steilen.

She graduated from Coconino High School in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1980 and from Northern Arizona University in 1985 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Throughout her life, she was a resident of Flagstaff, Arizona, Denver, Colorado, Brookings, South Dakota, and Salt Lake City, Utah working as an accountant.

Amanda had many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.  She expressed her thoughtfulness for others by sharing her passions:  Cooking, canning, gardening, reading, and unconditional love for dogs.  Amanda had a special talent for crocheting and left her family and friends thousands of stitches to remind them of her love.  Her laughter was unforgettable and could warm any room.  Family was a foundation of Amanda's life, and her presence and love in the lives of her family is irreplaceable.

Amanda also cherished her Catholic faith; she celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation in 1987 and attended mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City.

Amanda is survived by siblings Heidi (Kerry) Fillmore, Geordie (Sherri) Steilen, Edie (John) Messina, Susannah Lindquist, John (Rebecca) Steilen, Matthew (Brenda) Steilen, 18 nieces and nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Amanda is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Theresa (Maher) Mitchell, her father, Herbert Anthony Steilen, and her step-father John Joseph Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on January 20, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, UT.
