Ann Resch Larsen
Our dear Mutter, Oma, and Great Grandma Ann Resch Larsen passed away peacefully in her sleep September 16, 2010 at age 90.
She was born November 11, 1919 in Zwiesel, Germany. She married Lyal M. Larsen on December 19, 1948 in Germany following World War II and traveled to Ephraim, Utah to begin her new American life with young daughter Marianne.
Lyal and Ann continued their family in Ephraim with the birth of Steven and Rose, and eventually moved to Layton, Utah where Michael was born. Ann was hard working, fun loving German who never forgot her home in the beautiful Bavarian Forest of Zwiesel, Germany. She so missed her German heritage, but loved her American family and home in Layton.
She was fortunate to visit her homeland and German relatives several times with family members which she so enjoyed. She worked hard in numerous restaurants and eventually managed Bratten''s Grotto in Ogden for many years.
Ann was very independent, and had seen many challenges in her life. She was the oldest of six children, and during the depression and World War II helped her Father and Mother care for their family. She worked as a postal worker in Munich during World War II. She told many interesting stories about her youth in Germany, and her adjustment to American culture in a small town in Utah.
Lyal and Ann enjoyed retirement and loved to travel in their RV until Lyal''s untimely death in 1991. Ann was an animal lover, especially dogs.
Surviving are four children, Karoline Marianne (Kenith) Peterson, Steven (Linda) Larsen, Rose (Dave) Helquist, Michael (Robyn) Larsen, one brother, Kurt Resch, one sister Hilde Fishcer, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Lyal, granddaughter, Christy Helquist, brothers, Hans, Heinrick, and Herbert Resch.
A brief service will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, So. Ogden.
The family would like to thank all of the CNA''s and Advocate Hospice Staff, especially Ina who thoughtfully cared for Ann with gentle and loving treatment.
