Ann Partridge Shunn
LAYTON – Born July 20, 1945, in San Francisco, CA, to Neil R. Partridge and Elsie Marie Rigby Partridge, Ann Partridge Shunn died April 21, 2021, at her home in Layton, UT.
Ann graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1963, before attending Brigham Young University, where she earned a Bachelor Degree in 1967. BYU is also where she met her future husband, Don Shunn. They married in 1966.
Ann was mother to eight children and, with Don, managed to raise them on a shoestring, often thanks to her resourcefulness. Even with eight children of their own, Ann and Don repeatedly opened their home to nieces and nephews who needed an interim place to stay.
Once all eight of the Shunn children were in school, Ann found a career that matched her careful, detailed, and focused nature, working as a computer programmer for TaxWorks.
After retiring from TaxWorks, Ann and her husband traveled to mainland China where they taught English for a year, toured many areas of the country, and acquired a host of new friends. The couple was also blessed to spend two years serving full-time in the Family and Church History Mission in Salt Lake City. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ann faithfully served in dozens of other callings over the years.
After more than a year of too many doctors’ visits, too many tests, and too few answers, Ann was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in August 2020. ALS follows no predictable path or pace as it progresses, leaving muscle weakness, wasting, and paralysis in its wake. Although the pace at which ALS attacked Ann was relentless, she met her diagnosis and decline as she did so many other things in her life—with quiet grace, a generous spirit, and unflagging faith.
Ann is survived by her eight children: Bill Shunn (Nicole Hall), Seletha (Terry) Deru, Tanja (Roger) Easson, Greta (Neal) Pollard, Tim (Emily F.) Shunn, Lee (Emily J.) Shunn, Sarah Shunn (Wes Wesson), and Denice Shunn (Craig Blanch). She will also be sorely missed by her 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, her sister, Maureen Partridge Ross, her brother, Dr. Scott Partridge, numerous nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends and extended family. Ann is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Eric and Michael, and her husband of nearly 42 years, Don Shunn.
