Our dear mother and grandmother, age 94 slipped peacefully from this mortal existence in the early morning of October 17, 2018. She spent several years of her life enjoying living at Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living in Clearfield, making new friendships and enjoying the activities provided there. The last few months of her life were spent at Pheasant View Assisted Living in Layton, moving closer to her daughter Renee. The family appreciates the care and love given by both facilities. We also thank Utah Home Health and Hospice for their excellent care. If we ever needed to cheer her, we would just mention that Dr. Sam Wilson was coming to see her and what a smile came across her face.
Jeanne was born July 20, 1924 and was the third child and second daughter of Audrey Elvina (Petersen) Boyd and Edward Augustus Boyd in Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank and her sister Helen.
She valued education and took every advantage that was given her to learn and grow in the knowledge of many things throughout her life. This led to career opportunities managing the Clearfield Swimming Pool and swim programs, (her daughter Annette was involved with the racing and synchronizing teams), the American Red Cross, Grade school teacher, working as a realtor for Brough Realty. She retired around age 75 but not from life. She began taking organ lessons and then teaching at the Piano Gallery in Riverdale. Those were wonderful years that she enjoyed. Along with the important role of Motherhood, she led a very busy productive life.
Her teenage years were spent working at Lakota Beach at Bear Lake with her sister Helen cleaning cabins. It was there she met Ross Kearl at the evening activities. A romance blossomed and it wasn’t long before they were married in the Salt Lake Temple, February 6, 1942. From that union came three children, Jeanne Renee, Steven Ross, and Annette Maree.
World War II became part of their lives when Ross was called into the Navy to serve his country. She followed him when possible when he was in port but also worked at the Utah Defense Depot driving a fork lift and living with his mother who helped take care of Renee.
They eventually set down roots in Clearfield, Utah where Ross owned a private grocery store, Homer’s Market, before many of the chain stores started appearing. They had a pool put in their back yard and she taught swimming lessons there for many years. Becoming Empty Nesters found Mom falling in love with a home in Kaysville which they purchased in 1971. Many wonderful family memories were shared there with them.
Jeanne enjoyed hiking, ballroom and western dancing, camping, gardening, golf and skiing with her husband throughout their years together. She taught several of her grandchildren how to ski. She was an artist, enjoyed writing poetry and wrote many programs for church, school, and family. She enjoyed playing games with family and friends and even invented one of her own called Gottcha that was a hit with many who have it in their homes now, made by her. Their home in Kaysville became a garden of beautiful flowers everywhere. A Beautiful place for a family Easter hunt, a granddaughter’s wedding, and her 80th celebration. Later in life, Jeanne and Ross became adventurous travelers in their motor home and cruising this big wide wonderful world.
She served in many church positions throughout her life: Primary teacher, Jr. Gleaner Leader, MIA Drama director, MIA President, Relief Society President, Activity counselor. Her later years she was a docent at the LDS Museum of History and Art, Temple worker with Ross and Visiting Teacher always.
Ross passed five years ago and her son Steven 25 years ago, so let us end with the happiness our family feels to have them and many other family members reunited again forever. Families Can Be Together Forever…it’s God’s wonderful plan for us!!!!
