Anna May Snook Valentine
NORTH OGDEN - Our loving mother and grandmother, Anna May Snook Valentine, 93, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at her home in North Ogden surrounded by her children. Anna May was born to Arthur Sylvester and Anna Catherine Fisher Snook on November 18, 1918 in Akron, Ohio where she grew up and graduated from North High School in 1936.
Mom''s inward and outward beauty captured Dad''s heart, attention and devotion for over 70 years. On June 24, 1939 she married Leland L. Valentine. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1942. They moved from Akron to Ogden, then settled in Pleasant View for over 50 years, finally moving to North Ogden where she lived at the time of her passing. Dad preceded her on April 9, 2010.
Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in several callings including Relief Society Teacher, Visiting Teaching Supervisor, R.S. President, and as an Ogden Temple Ordinance Worker. She served with Dad as Senior Missionaries in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission in 1982-83.
She had a passion for gardening and kept beautiful gardens and flower beds at their Pleasant View home, sharing beautiful bouquets with others and for church services. She enjoyed embroidering, making many artistic pieces that now are cherished heirlooms. She was a crossword puzzle master and continued working on them until the very end of her life. She was an insatiable reader and absorbed knowledge like a sponge, serving as our walking encyclopedia during our school years. She loved to travel with Dad, and had a special place in her heart for him, and all of us, her grand and great-grand children, and her many dogs that filled her life with joy and unconditional love. All who knew her felt of her love and enjoyed her wonderful and crazy sense of humor.
Mom was a master driller on the skins of the wings of the C46/C47 planes, and her sister, Marj, worked with her in the same building as a rivet bucker on the planes'' wings in the Akron, Ohio plant during WWII. Later she worked as secretary at the W.S. Butler Tailoring Company in Ogden, then at the Department of Defense Depot, Ogden, as a secretary and purchasing agent, retiring in 1961.
Mom is survived by her sons, Roger (Joanne) Valentine, North Ogden, UT; and Daniel (Janet) Valentine, Grace, ID; daughters Jane Rhees, North Ogden, UT, Diane (Keith) Christensen, North Ogden, UT, and Susan (Richard) GonzA¡lez, Pleasant View, UT; 24 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Borhman, Akron, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Stella Snook, and grandson Jeffrey Valentine.
