Anna Maria Herrera Whitlock
January 29, 1968 ~ November 24, 2021
Our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, “glamma,” and friend, Anna returned to her eternal home while surrounded by love on November 24, 2021.
With the heart of a servant, Anna lived a life of compassion, kindness, and humility. From fundraisers to small businesses, she was always happy to support. As she provided for the needy, fed the hungry, and sponsored those without a voice, Anna believed strangers to be friends she hadn’t met, giving the benefit of the doubt, and putting energy into what matters. A woman of immense faith and love of God, she was a member of Elevation Church in Clearfield, Utah.
The youngest of seven children, Anna was born on January 29, 1968 to Edumenio and Frances Herrera in Ogden, UT. An ambitious student, Anna graduated from Ogden High School in 1986. At age 16, her career began at the IRS where she worked in IT as a Management Program Analyst. She traveled to many cities and met many lifelong friends. Setting an example for her children, Anna graduated from Park University with a BS in Management/Computer Information Systems.
In 1988, Anna and Linwood “Dale” Burkett married. In 1990, they welcomed daughter, Lindze, and later divorced. On June 26, 1996, Anna and Richard Whitlock married. They welcomed son, Zachary; and Richard’s children, Jelyn and Jacob.
Anna enjoyed spontaneous trips with her husband, gut-busting laughs with her children, and galivanting around with her “Partner in Crime,” Vanessa. Evident by her fashion and collection of shoes, Anna loved cheerful colors and patterns. With her hands always covered in paint, she enjoyed crafting. A loyal fan of “her boyz,” the Dallas Cowboys, she now has the best seat to cheer loudly and proudly.
On October 6, 2020, Anna was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. She maintained an optimistic outlook, sharing her journey on social media with uplifting messages of faith and encouragement. Anna was hopeful in finding her cure, frequenting Huntsman Cancer Institute, and traveling to Arizona for treatments and clinical trials. Even on the hard days, Anna enjoyed sharing in the lives of her loved ones and was only a call or text away.
Anna is survived by her loving husband, Richard; children: Lindze (Marcus Mordido) Burkett, Zachary (Brittney Taylor) Whitlock, Jelyn (Frank) Gaines, and Jacob (Sarah) Whitlock; grandchildren: Vanessa, Nicolas, Dejah, LaNyah, Ronnie, Adeline, and Penny; siblings: Art (Linda), Marie (Mike) Neri, Joe (Pauline), Eddie, and Sally (Jimmy) Aguilar; dog, Steve; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Josie Nelms; brother-in-law, Alan Nelms; and sister-in-law, Bambi Herrera.
