Anna Myrle Johnson Young
1923 ~ 2013
Anna Myrle Johnson Young, 90, our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed into the next life peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Julie Young, in South Weber, Utah. Myrle was born on April 16, 1923 to Axel Ludwig Johnson and Marcia Etta Kelsey Johnson in Leamington, Utah. She graduated from Delta High School in 1941. She attended 1 year of college at BYU in Provo and worked during World War II at Hill Field. After the war, she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Western States Mission, headquartered in Denver, Co. She married Vern Evan Young in the Manti LDS Temple on November 19, 1948. Together they had 6 children, Ronald (Adele), Diane (Norman) Baker, Gary, Loren, Linda (Bradley) Stringer, and Norman (Julie). Vern passed away December 16, 1975 following a motorcycle accident.
Myrle enjoyed working in her yard and won many beautification awards from Sunset City, where they raised their family. She loved her roses. She also loved making quilts to give to her family, friends and many charitable organizations. She was also a talented musician. She played the piano by ear and participated in many school plays and operettas during high school and college. She performed in singing groups and as a soloist. She was the director of the Sunset Harmonettes for many years. She also volunteered at Sunset Elementary as one of the Reading Grandmas to tutor children in a reading program. She loved teaching children.
Myrle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. She served as Jr. Sunday School Coordinator, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Relief Society President, Choir Director, Stake Missionary, Primary teacher and Young Women''s President. She always loved her callings and gave her all in fulfilling them. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Myrle is survived by her six children, 23 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Also surviving is her sister, Varda Barrett. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Earl and Ray Johnson and sister Melva Finlinson.
The family wishes to thank Norm and Julie Young and Applegate Hospice for their loving care during the final years of her life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton Utah. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment Clinton City Cemetery.
