Anne Danvers Hales
June 10, 1920 ~ September 20, 2016
Anne Danvers Hales passed away peacefully on September 20, 2016, at the age of 96. Born the youngest of five children in Alameda, California, on June 10, 1920 to Wilford and Ida Richardson Danvers, she lived most of her life in Ogden, graduating from the new Ogden High School in 1938, a member of its first graduating class. She earned a degree in English from Brigham Young University, where she met Wilson, her future husband. Anne often said she was proud of her Danvers, Shurtliff and Richardson heritage, some of Ogden’s pioneer settlers.
She married D. Wilson Hales in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 24, 1942. They raised four children: Robert, Stephen, John, and Mary Anne. After 67 years together, her husband died in 2009. She has ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and has made a quilt for each.
Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she has served in many positions, including the presidencies of the Relief Society and Primary. For more than fifty years, she and Wilson enjoyed the company of their Fireside Group, and Anne counted among them her closest friends.
Anne also worked with the Medical Auxiliary, Junior League, Coronet Club, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed reading, singing, visiting with her family and making long road trips, including memorable explorations with her husband and the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, and yearly trips to Cedar City for the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Anne felt at home in the out of doors, picnicking with her family and visiting national parks, and she enjoyed the view of the Wasatch Mountains from her living room window.
Anne is survived by her children Stephen (Nancy), John (Corrinne), and Mary Anne Reynolds, ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson, her son Robert, her son-in-law Bruce, and her brother and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Weber State University in her name, or the Belle Wilson Hales Endowed Memorial Scholarship through Brigham Young University.
