“Together Again”

Ardella Green passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 5, 1934, to William Thomas and Mary Jane Allen Jackson and was the youngest of nine children. Growing up on a farm in Loa, Utah, taught her the value of hard work. Following the death of her father she moved to Brigham City with her mother and graduated from Box Elder High School.

She met and fell in love with W. Howard Green while working in Ogden. They were married on November 1, 1954 at “The Little Church of the West” in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ogden became their permanent home where she supported him in his insurance career and community involvement. Together they catered many dinners serving their famous marinated flank steaks, baked beans, and homemade scones.

They were blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters. On June 9, 1969, a day she had prayed for, they were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and always had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She served in many callings within in her ward and stake. She especially loved the people she served in the Young Womens, Relief Society, and teaching Sunday School.

Blessed with the gift of compassion, she would often recognize a need in someone and never hesitate to serve them by providing love, meals, child care, and support. She was a selfless example to her children and a friend to everyone she met.

After all of her children were enrolled in school, she decided to go herself. As a student at Weber State College she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and became an elementary teacher for the Weber School District. She excelled as a teacher, was on many councils, committees, and enjoyed teaching math workshops. Working with and teaching children was very fulfilling to her.

While attending Weber State she recognized a need in a young athletes living away from home. Many were homesick so, she would find out where they were from and become their friend. These athletes were often invited to join our family for Sunday dinners or backyard get-togethers. She often took our family to their sporting events and became a big Weber State sports fan for many years. She became especially close to Randy Montgomery who was like her adopted son and has remained close to the family.

After she retired from teaching and her children were all married, she and dad enjoyed traveling together and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Howard preceded her in death on September 15, 2000. She has anxiously waited many years to be with him again.

She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and belonged to Kappa Delta Sorority. She loved to spend time with her friends, the “Lunch Bunch”.

She developed many hobbies using her hands and was recognized for the beautiful flowers arrangements she created; many of those flowers were done for Memorial Day. She spoiled her grandchildren, and the girls will always remember the tricot pajamas and pillowcases she sewed for them. Quilting became her passion, and she would often make several beautiful pieced quilt tops at a time. These finished quilts have become cherished keepsakes. They are reminders of a life pieced together with faith, humility, love, determination and to always keep busy doing good things. They also provide warmth and protection, just like she did for so many throughout her life.

Ardella is survived by her four children and their spouses, W. Howard (Shelly) Green, Ogden; Nancy (Brett) Nilsson, Layton; A. Roger (Patti) Green, Syracuse; Linda (Steve) VanLeer, Eden; her sister, LuDean Teeples, Richfield, Utah. She will be missed by 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren who have fond memories of birthday shopping, playing games, going to lunch, and getting lots of hugs.

The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Fairfield Village of Layton and Inspiration Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they showed to her and her family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
