Arden Junior Broadbent

July 28, 1925 — December 23, 2024

Arden Junior Broadbent, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather returned to his heavenly home on December 23, 2024. 

Born July 28, 1925, in Ogden, Utah to Mary Charlesworth and Enoch Broadbent; Arden Junior lived in the Ogden area until 1977 when he became a resident of Liberty.

He graduated from Ogden High in 1943 and worked for the Idaho Central Railroad from 1941 to 1943. He went on to serve his country in World War II in the Navy Amphibs from November 26, 1943 to May 19, 1946. After World War II, he worked for a short while at the Defense Depot in Ogden and at the U.S. Post Office. He attended Weber College on the GI Bill where he graduated in 1953. Arden Junior came from a railroad family so in 1947 to 1956 he became a Locomotive Fireman for the Southern Pacific Railroad. In 1956 to 1986 when he retired, he was a locomotive engineer. 

Arden Junior married Ellen Jane Hoagland of Ogden in 1949, with whom he had four children with; Ellen is now deceased. He remarried Lora M. Barnett in 1972 and acquired three additional children. 

He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 

Interests he has enjoyed during his lifetime consist of fishing, camping, hunting, and spending time at their cabin between Heber and Starvation Reservoirs. 

Arden Junior has been a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Eagles, and the American Legion. He served as Forest Service volunteer for the Ashley National Forest as an Archaeology crewman and supervisor. He also worked on the Historical Sweat Ranch as a handyman, and a supervisor for the volunteer work crews restoring the ranch from 1990 to 1996. 

Arden Junior is survived by his children and their spouses, Lynette and Rick Wagner of Ogden, Utah; Rod and Angela Broadbent of Castro Valley, California; Rae Ann and Craig James of Nordic Valley, Utah; Matthew Broadbent of Vernal, Utah; Alesia and Robert Allen of Evanston, Wyoming; and Lee Broadbent of Liberty, UT. As well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first spouse, Ellen Hoagland Broadbent; his son, Michael Broadbent; and his parents, Mary and Enoch Broadbent. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Liberty 2nd Ward Chapel, 4279 North 3300 East. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. 

Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
