Ardyth Bates Dennis

February 4, 1927 ~ July 15, 2017

Ardyth Bates Dennis, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the home of her son, George and his wife, Barbara, who had lovingly cared for her for the past eight years.

Ardyth was born in Logan, Utah on February 4, 1927 to George Sprague Bates and Cordelia Poulter Bates, the third of four children and the only girl.

She attended schools in Logan and graduated from Logan High School where her own father was the principal.  She then went on to Salt Lake City where she trained as a nurse at the end of World War II. She served as a nurse for many years, rendering much compassionate service in medical offices in the Ogden area and at the old McKay Dee Hospital.  Finally, however, nursing took its toll on her.  She said it became just too difficult to leave her work behind at the end of a shift, especially when the patients were children.  She retired from nursing, re-trained at Weber State College and became a teacher.  She continued her service to elementary children in the Weber County School District and retired from there after 20 years.

Ardyth was fun-loving and enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her sorority.  She loved national and international travel, reading, putting together puzzles, playing games and embroidery.  Her life was full and active and independent until eight years ago when she suffered a massive stroke which took away her ability to speak and to live independently.  After that she became an inspiration to everyone who knew her or even encountered her.  Her smile was beautiful.  Her blue eyes and lovely face expressed what she could no longer say.  She continued to be a blessing to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Everyone loved to be around her.  She brought happiness.  All of us learned from her what it is to accept hardship with grace and to go on with dignity and poise no matter the circumstances.

Ardyth was also a loving wife and mother.  She married and raised three sons, George, Douglas and Jack.  She is survived by her sons, George (Barbara Morgan) Dennis and Douglas (Marcia Jacobsen) Dennis; 16 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and her son Jack.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Forest Green Ward, 1401 Country Hills Drive, Ogden. The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.   Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.  Interment, Logan City Cemetery
