Arend H. "Art" DeBoer
September 27, 1918-March 4, 2011
Art DeBoer age 92 passed away at his home in North Ogden on March 4, 2011 following a short illness.
He was born in Holland to Harm DeBoer and Hillegonda Meinders and came to the United States with his parents when he was 14 months old. He was educated in the Ogden School District and graduated from Weber College in 1938.
Art married the love of his life, LaVern Berrett of North Ogden in the Salt Lake Temple in 1941. They were the parents of Dennis (Bonnie), Gail (Walt) Johnson, Lorinda, and Jan (Ron) Moore. LaVern preceded him in death in 1987. He later married Carrol Hawkes who also preceded him in death. In 2000, he married Jean Pulispher with whom he shared his final years.
He is survived by his wife, children, brother Robert DeBoer as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, stepchildren, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. He managed the printing department at Weber College for many years and continued his printing career at Marquardt Corporation. He then operated his own printing shop until shortly before his death.
Art was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served a mission, initially in the Neitherlands and was subsequently transferred to the Central States at the outbreak of the European war. He faithfully served in many positions in the Church throughout his life.
He was a skilled athlete, winning many trophies in softball, table tennis, and handball. His life was devoted to service to his family and friends. Art was extraordinarily talented at building and repairing things. He built the home where he raised his family and was always willing to use his many talents to help others.
The family wishes to express their deepest a gratitude to the Intermountain Hospice team for their support and concern.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.
Family will meet friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m on Tuesday at the Mortuary.
