Arlene Skeen Alvord 1919-2009

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend returned home to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 30, 2009.

Arlene was born October 4, 1919 to Blaine and Irene Maw Skeen in Plain City, Utah. She graduated from Weber County High School and Seminary. Arlene married Paul Edmond Alvord on November 24, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and was blessed with three children. During their marriage they lived in Plain City, North Ogden, Okinawa, Warner Robbins, Georgia, Logan, and South Jordan, Utah. She established committed life time friendships, she also created beautiful homes.

Arlene''s life has been one of service. She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She cherished her many callings in the Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society. She helped to organize the first Primary held for Oriental children in the Far East in 1968 while living in Okinawa. She faithfully performed her duties answering the telephone at the Jordan River Temple until she was 85 years young.

She enjoyed the many years she served as a volunteer at the Logan Regional Hospital, also serving as President of the Volunteer Auxiliary. In 1996 she received the "Utah Volunteer of the Year" Award from the Utah Association of Health Providers. She supported children through many years of service in the PTA Organization.

Survived by three children Karen Hill Allred (Gary), Scott Alvord (Jackie), Ross Alvord (Shelley); nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter, all of whom she loved and took an ongoing interest in making their lives special. She is also survived by sisters Beth Bitton, Beverly Pledger, sister-in-law Lorna Skeen and brothers Ronald Skeen (Shirley) and Garry Skeen (Sherrille), brother-in-law Ray Alvord (Bonnie) and sister-in-law Zelma Alvord. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, sister Barbara, brother Lyman, brother-in-laws, Raymond Bitton, Robert Pledger and son-in-law Jack Hill. The family wishes to express thanks to Intermountain Medical Staff and VistaCare.

Viewing will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, at the South Jordan River Ridge Chapel, adjacent to the Jordan River Temple, 10200 S. 1300 W. from 2-4 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd., where friends may call from 9:30 a€" 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment Ben Lomond/North Ogden Cemetery.
