Arlene Ruth Groninger Barnes, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at her home. She had resided in Layton since 1965.
She was born August 31, 1927 in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania the daughter of Herman S. and Mae M. Kepner Groninger.
Arlene married Felix M. Barnes in October 1950 in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania.
She was baptized and joined the Lutheran Church at age 14 in Pennsylvania. When she moved to Layton she became active in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church when invited by friends. She enjoyed working with her Catholic friends in Sewing Angels.
Arlene loved to read; she took an interest in local and national politics; enjoyed gardening and watching backyard birds.
Arlene worked at Layton High School as a school lunch cook from 1974 a�" 1996. She enjoyed working with the kids and made many friends among the staff.
Surviving are her three sons, Jeff Barnes, Roy; Chris Barnes, Jacksonville, FL; Keith Barnes, Mission Viejo, CA; three daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Baldwin, Blackfoot, ID; Janice Clapier, South Ogden; Beth (Bryan) Weaver, Clinton; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and brother, Herman Groninger, Seattle, WA.
Preceded in death by her husband.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
