Arlene Parker Burton
Layton - Arlene Parker Burton, 89, passed away in her home early December 7, 2009. She was born on January 17, 1920 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Charles Jacob and Elizabeth Anderson Parker.
She married her high school sweetheart, Lynn Ware Burton, on October 2, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had two sons, Dee Lynn and David William. Lynn passed away February 2, 1999 after they had 57 wonderful years together.
While growing up, she lived in Idaho Falls, Ogden, and Bountiful. She lived in Layton from 1942 until her passing. She graduated from Davis High School in 1938 and attended LDS Business College. Arlene was employed at IRS, Hill AFB, and Clover Club. Arlene was active in the LDS church, serving in many callings. She was a teacher and presidency member in Primary, Young Women''s, and Relief Society at the ward and stake levels. She served a mission with her husband in the Mesa Temple Visitor Center, was a hostess for many years at the Beehive House in Salt Lake City, and was a visiting teacher for 64 years.
Her greatest joy was being with her family. She had a gift for making friends and enjoyed many lifelong associations. She was a sports fan and played golf. She enjoyed camping and traveling. She was a member of the Layton Bellitristic Literary Club for 54 years.
Arlene is survived by her two sons, Dee Lynn (Sandra) and David William (Dawna) as well as eight grandchildren, Brady (Sheri) Burton, Brett (Jana) Burton, Rebecca (Brett) Perkins, Brooke (Scott) Pendleton, Heidi (Steve) Bachman, Christine (Vaughn) Heaston, Ben Burton, and Michael Burton, and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Donna (Stearns) Kilfoyle and her brother Tyrus Parker.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents as well as brothers Eldren, Paul, Howard, and Jay Parker and one sister, Elsie Price.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 PM and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 AM at the mortuary.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
