Arlene Atkinson Hamberlin

Arlene Atkinson Hamberlin, 85, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2012 at the Avalon Care Center in Bountiful, UT, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 4, 1927 at home in Samaria, ID, along with her twin, Verlene, to Charles and Ethel Atkinson. She was raised on a farm with few modern conveniences and developed a strong work ethic early on.

She graduated from Malad High School in 1945, where she met her sweetheart, Melvin Price. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 17, 1946. They had five children. The family lived and worked on a farm in Malad until Melvin''s death in 1958. Arlene then moved to be with her second husband, Earl Jaques, in Layton, UT in 1961. They had one child. Arlene worked at First National Bank of Layton for 26 years while raising her children and a grandson. After Earl''s death, she was also married and widowed to Keith Talbot and Victor Hamberlin.

Arlene was known for her sense of humor and her kind, fun-loving spirit. She had an appetite for travel and adventure, and was willing to try anything once, including four-wheeling, snowmobiling and river rafting. She was an expert seamstress and created over 100 quilts in her lifetime, most of which were given away. She was also skilled at tatting, crocheting, and cross-stitch and created many beautiful treasures. Arlene enjoyed dancing, walking, canning, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. We will miss her radiant personality, the mischievous spark in her eye and her laughter.

Arlene is survived by her brothers and sisters, Verlene, Carol, Don and Dale, and her children: Jim (Carol) Price, Melva (Bill) Jaques, Cindy Maw, Ferril (Ann) Price, and Tom Jaques. She is also survived by her grandson/son Justin Jaques, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Emery, her daughter Ilene (Ernest) Blankenship, and her grandson, Brice Maw.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Malad City Cemetery, Malad, Idaho. Friends may visit family Friday, November 23, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Avalon Care Center, Salt Lake Behavioral Health, and Legacy Healthcare for their compassion, and patience.
