Arline Rae Phister Combe

SOUTH OGDEN- Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Arline Rae Phister Combe, returned to her Father in Heaven on July 12, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Arline was born February 21, 1935 in Oakland, California, the second child of Raymond Emmerson and Helen Poulsen Phister. At fifteen, her family moved to Utah where she graduated from Weber High School.

Arline married her sweetheart, Byron C. Combe, on February 7, 1952 in Ogden. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Roy from 1963 to 1989. In 1989 they built their dream home in South Ogden where she resided until her death.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings, including Stake Primary President for 13 years. She was an example of faith and testimony to everyone around her.

Arline found joy in serving others and served her community by donating and decorating Christmas trees for the Festival of Trees in Salt Lake City and the Cancer Center of McKay Dee Hospital. Her acts of kindness and service touched the lives of many.

She was a Hawaiian dance instructor for many years. Byron and Arline were presidents of the Quarter Promenade Square Dancers. She took great pride in her pioneer heritage and served as Chapter President of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She retired from Riverdale Elementary as a school librarian. She loved and cherished the children she worked with.

Arline was a dedicated and loving mother to her children. She cherished the time she spent with her family. Her family enjoyed many traditions, including camping at Fish Lake, Jackson Hole, and Lava Hot Springs. She also loved deer hunting, attending Stadium of Fire programs, Christmas at The Spaghetti Factory, and the lights at Temple Square. She was a wonderful hostess at her annual Halloween parties where she served her delicious chili, and at her couples Christmas dinner. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, interior design, and celebrating holidays- especially Christmas.

She is survived be her loving and dedicated husband of 61 years; six sons, Michael Scott (Connie) of Roy, Byron Lee (Cindy) of West Haven, John Phillip (Diane) of Roy, David Glen (Brittany) of Minnesota, Steven Anthony (Stephanie) of West Haven, and Travis Rae (Janette) of Perry; 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Everett (Gloria) Phister of St. George and Noel (Marlene) Phister of Layton; and sister, Noreen Phister Law of Fruit Heights.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Dale Phister; brother-in-law, Newell Law; and her two beloved daughters, Cynthia and Cheryl Combe.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Burch Creek 3rd Ward, 5161 South 1300 East in South Ogden. Friends may visit family on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

A special thanks to former daughter-in-law Robin Combe for her loving care given to Arline, and to long-time family friends, Mark and Cheryl Schmid. The family also expresses their appreciation to Bristol Hospice.
