Arlyn D Smedley
December 5, 1923 ~ May 15, 2014
Arlyn D Smedley passed away peacefully at the Legacy House on May 15, 2014, where he lived for the past two years. He was born on December 5, 1923 in Syracuse, Utah to Bernard and Ella Mae Smedley.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Bishop, Scoutmaster, and many other callings.
Arlyn married his sweetheart, Barbara LaRue Hymas, on September 17, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised six children in Ogden, Utah where they had many close friends and neighbors. They had many wonderful years together. Arlyn took such good care of Barbara with her health struggles and never complained. Barbara died on May 7, 1992. After a move to Montpelier, Idaho, Arlyn married ElDean Ashley Roberts on October 5, 1994. Arlyn happily cared for ElDean during her health decline. ElDean died on December 25, 2002.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, fighting for the country he loved. Upon his return, Arlyn again served our nation as a civilian employee of Hill Air Force Base until retirement.
Arlyn loved working with wood and playing the piano with family singing around him. After 22 years apart, Dad and Mom are enjoying a wonderful reunion. We are sure music is a part of the day.
Arlyn is survived by his six children and their spouses: Craig (Ann) Smedley, Kevin (Kathy) Smedley, Becky (Larry) Albiston, Mark (Shelley) Smedley, Kris (Kathleen) Smedley, Kerry ( Kenra) Smedley, 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, brother, Thayne (Ellen) Smedley, brother-in-law, Merrill (Darlene) Hymas and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Garman, George, Milton), and three sisters (LaVell, Shirlene, Sheryl).
Our family would like to thank the Legacy House in South Jordan as well as Brighton Hospice. The love and care given to our father will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
