Arnold Hazen Romero passed away at his home the morning of September 1, 2011 surrounded by his sweetheart of 65 years and his family.
He was born June 11, 1925 in Ashton, ID to Kenneth and Hazel Romero. He was raised in Idaho as a small boy and later moved to Smithfield, UT. He attended North Cache High School and graduated from Utah State University. He served two years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Enterprise in the Pacific Theatre.
After returning home, he met Estella G. Leishman in May of 1946 and married her September 25, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved first to Washington Terrace and later to Layton, UT.
Arnold worked for 32 years at HAFB as a Production Control Supervisor. After retirement Arnold and Estella served in the Rarotonga Cook Islands LDS Mission. He also served as a host at Temple Square. For thirty years they served at the Ogden Temple. He served as a counselor in the bishopric and as Executive Secretary, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group leader and home teacher.
Arnold loved supporting his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He attended athletic events across Utah, Idaho, New Mexico and Texas. He loved entertaining and spending time with his extended family. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, and Utah Jazz fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ken, and sisters Wilma and Leona. He is survived by his bride Estella, daughters Penny Romero (Ogden), Dixie (Steve) Claybrook (Parker, CO), five grandchildren, Cameron Flint (Bountiful), Cody Flint (Bountiful), Desiree Flint (Lubbock, TX), Dalton Claybrook (Lubbock, TX) and Brook Line (Philadelphia, PA). Arnold also leaves behind five great-grandsons that he adored. He is also survived by one sister Arvella (Wade) Ross of California and a sister-in-law Wilma Romero (California).
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the LDS Missionary fund or a charity of your choice. The family would also like to express their thanks to Thatcher Brook Hospice, especially Allie, Heather and Brittany. They would also like to thank the staff at Legacy Village for the loving care of their parents.
