Arthur A. Astle OGDEN – Arthur Allen Astle, 93, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden. He was born March 10, 1915 in Columbus, Montana, to James William and Minnie May Snyder Astle. Arthur “Art” was one of seven children. The family moved to Garland, Utah in 1916 where Art grew up. Arthur married Willma Margaret Oliver in Yakima, Washington on September 26, 1948. Their marriage was solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple on October 11, 1974. After growing up in the Garland/Tremonton area where he graduated from high school and LDS Seminary, Art joined the Utah National Guard in 1940. He was called into service in 1941 during World War II. Art’s military service in the Pacific was a proud highlight of his life. He enjoyed telling of his experiences as a Master Sergeant. When the war ended he moved to Yakima, Washington to manage a Standard Oil service station. It was there he met Willma. Art and Willma lived in Yakima for three years and then bought a five acre home and apple orchard in Selah, Washington in 1955. He worked in the auto and oil industry for many years, first with Standard Oil, then for Atlantic Richfield, retiring in 1977. After retirement he worked part-time as a custodian for the Selah, Washington LDS Stake. Art and Willma moved to North Ogden, Utah in 1983. Willma passed away May 9, 2006. Art then lived at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living and Crestwood Care Center in Ogden. Art was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in a Bishopric and on the High Council of the Yakima Stake for 16 years. He was known as an inspiring speaker. He was also an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple from 1983 to 1985 and in the Name Extraction Program of the North Ogden Stake. Art enjoyed people and had a great sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, reading, traveling, cars, gardening and church service.
