“Together Again”

Arthur Lee Dowdy, 90, passed away peacefully in his daughter’s arms on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Quail Meadow Assisted Living.  He was born on August 7, 1925 in Pearisburg, Virginia, the son of Albert Franklin and Annie Mae Elmore Dowdy.

He married Betty Lee Meadows on May 14, 1947 in Giles County, Virginia.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She passed away on August 25, 1986.

Art was reared in Giles County, Virginia and moved to Utah in 1952.  He was employed as a fireman for Amcor Corporation retiring in 1988.

Art was a High Priest and was a member of the North Ogden 2nd Ward.  He never failed to express his appreciation to the missionaries serving in the Central Atlantic States Mission in 1950.  He remained lifelong friends with the young missionary from Utah who converted “this ole’ hillbilly” and persuaded him and his family to move out west!  Art often went back to visit his beloved Virginia and felt blessed to see all of his family become converts to the church.

Art was also an avid golfer and on June 11, 1983 hit his first hole in one at Riverside golf course.  He enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.  He will be remembered for his contagious grin, positive attitude, tremendous sense of humor, YODELING AND MORE YODELING, and for never losing a game of horseshoes!

Art is survived by his two sons, Rick (Vicki) Dowdy of Ogden and Jim (Suzy) Dowdy of SLC; daughter, Lynnette (Dave) Pagano of Roy; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his eternal companion, Betty; 16 brothers and sisters; one grandson, and one great-granddaughter.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Gary Holland, Comfort Worx Hospice, (Amy you were his hero and ours.  You are a precious gift!)  Quail Meadow Medical Staff (especially Mariza, Kyra, Jeanette, and Lisa). Special thanks to Brandy Olson (you are quite simply our everything!) and Art’s beloved Jeanie Girl.

At Art’s request, Private graveside services were held with his family.
