Arthur Wayne Harris
FRUIT HEIGHTS - A. Wayne Harris, 95, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 at Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living in Clearfield, Utah, where he and his wife Ina have been living.
He was born October 23, 1912 in Portage, Utah the 6th of nine children of Robert Cromwell Harris and Sylvia Green. Wayne graduated from Bear River High School in 1930. He attended Utah State University from 1930 to 1932, and went to Brigham Young University from 1932 to 1936 receiving both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Geology.
Wayne was employed with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation from 1936 to 1965. In 1965 he was transferred to the Bureau Job Corps Program as Job Corps Officer and Program Management Specialist. He retired from Government service after 37 years in June 1973.
Wayne obtained a commission in World War II as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He served 18 months as an officer on several Battleships on the Staff of Commander of Battleships U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMBATPAC). He received 13 combat battle stars on his record, with each star representing one or more major Navy Operations of Engagements that he participated in. Wayne has been active in the LDS church all of his life. He has served in a Branch Presidency, as Sunday School Superintendent, an Elder Quorum Presidency, Stake Seventy Quorum Presidency, Ward High Priest Group Leadership, Ward Clerk, two year Stake Mission, Stake Sunday School Presidency, Teacher Development director, 4 1/2 years as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple and Supervisor of Stake Computer input program for 4 years.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Ina, of 57 years; his four sons, Don, Dan, Alan and Gary; and one sibling, his sister Verna.
Wayne and Ina have lived in Fruit Heights, Utah, where they enjoyed retirement, family, and home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
