Arthur Wilford Nielsen, born January 1, 1945, returned to his Heavenly Home Monday, March 27, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Art was the son of Max and Dawnine Nielsen, raised in Clinton UT and was in the first graduating class (1962) of Clearfield High School.
Art married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Hill, September 14, 1966, and the marriage was solemnized on May 13, 1968, in the Logan, UT Temple. They were blessed with four children, that he said accounted for his gray hair. After being a widower for 10 years he was fortunate to find his second love and married Ruth Wangsgard, January 7, 2005 and the marriage was solemnized on March 18, 2021 in the Bountiful, UT Temple.
He resided mostly in Northern Utah, having lived in Ogden, Syracuse, So. Weber and Layton. He was employed at Hill Air Force Base where he retired after 35 years and was an active member of the LDS Church. He spent his retirement traveling the world with one of his favorite places being New Zealand with its breathtaking beautiful natural landscapes. In the states, he enjoyed spending time camping with a favorite spot being Bridger Lake. He loved to drive and give rides to his grandkids in his restored 1973 convertible Mustang. To relax, he liked to watch any sport, sometimes flipping channels on the TV between several sports at the same time. But nothing was more important for him than spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his second wife, Ruth Wangsgard Nielsen of Layton UT; two sons and two daughters, Mandy (Robert) Topper, Jacksonville, FL; Greg (Cara) Nielsen, Sota Springs, ID; Ashley Nielsen, Jacksonville, FL; Kelly Nielsen (Jessica), Las Vegas, NV; step son Mike Vaughan (Suzanne), Layton, UT; step son Brian (Hillary), Vaughan, Mt. Green UT; seventeen grand-children; sister, Sammi (Vern) Nielsen. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pat Hill Nielsen; parents, Max (Gail) Nielsen and Dawnine (Robert) McShane; brothers, Dan, Max, and Paul Nielsen
