Arthur Asa Toimoto
1925 ~ 2016
BOUNTIFUL, UT – After a courageous battle with prostate cancer our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Arthur Toimoto, passed away on June 27, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Acampo, California, on October 25, 1925 the only child of Isamu and Aki Shigemoto Toimoto.
During World War II he was relocated to an internment camp in Rohwer, Arkansas. Following graduation from high school, at the age of 18, he was drafted into the Army. In October 1946 he was discharged as a Corporal. He moved to Ogden, Utah where he met the love of his life, Haru Hamada. They were married on January 21, 1949 and had 67 wonderful years together. They made their home in Roy, Utah until retirement. He served as a Roy City Councilman for four years and made many friends.
Arthur worked for Smith’s Food and Drug for 33 years. He held many positions within the company starting in the produce department and retiring as the head buyer and distribution center manager. In retirement he enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Haru; daughters, Susan (Brian) Christiansen and Teri Rio; grandchildren, Kristy (Brad) Cronkrite, Cody (Lydia) Christiansen, and Arthur Rio; and great-grandchildren, Kade Christiansen, Candin and Sage Rio; and Brian and Leia Cronkrite.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Temple, 155 North Street, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Temple.
The family would like to thank Dr. Neeraj Agarwal and his staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the staff from Hearts to Hospice.
