Arvella Allen

Our loving mother, grandma, sister and friend passed away on December 23, 2012 at her home in Washington Terrace of natural causes. Arvella was born on September 1, 1936 in Idaho Falls, ID to Arvel Leo and Nellie Dean Travis Winder. Her family moved to Ogden, UT in 1943. She attended Ogden High School, loved the outdoors and was a champion archer.

She married George C. Vit in 1953. They were later divorced. She married Ethan J. Allen in 1960. He preceded her in death in 2010.

Arvella enjoyed music and was an organist at church while a teenager. She loved to sing and was especially fond of Patsy Cline songs. She often sang while doing household chores or cooking.

She kept a very clean, organized home, put a hot dinner on the table every night, and canned quarts and quarts of vegetables from the huge garden she maintained with Dad. She was very intelligent with a wonderful vocabulary. She loved to play cards, do crossword puzzles, and read, with the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln being among her favorite subjects.

Mom was such a joy to all who met her. She was very affectionate and friendly and welcomed everyone into her home with a hug and kiss. She lived a simple, uncomplicated life. She was a homebody who enjoyed her family and friends more than anything.

Mom had a special relationship with her son-in-law, Charlie. He stopped in every day to visit, tease, and make sure she didn''t want for anything.

Arvella is survived by her two daughters, Brenda (Charles) Brasher and Barbara (David) Morley; one son, E. Chris (Trish) Allen; 16 grandchildren, with another on the way; one sister, Deanna (Cecil) Powell; two brothers, Roger ( Marg) Winder and Frank (Julie) Winder.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, David; parents and two brothers, Travis and Neal. We are comforted by their joyous reunion.

A special thanks goes out to our cousin, Judy, for her love, care and companionship to Mom.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
