Arwin A. “Joe” Storey, 91, a long-time Roy resident, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Born August 20, 1933, in Brown City, Michigan, Joe was the 12th of 13 children of Iva Mae Hayden and James Henry Storey.

Raised and schooled there and in Port Huron, Michigan, Joe played football and later joined the US Army, where he served honorably during the Korean War. He then joined the US Air Force and served during Vietnam.

He met his wife, Virginia Becker, while stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota. They were wed there on January 12, 1956. During his 25 years in the USAF, Joe traveled around the world 5 times as a Load Master. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974 as a MSGT.

Joe enjoyed working on crosswords and jigsaw puzzles and watching sports. He and Virginia also enjoyed spending time with family and loading up their motor home to visit new and exciting places across the country.

On February 2, Joe was baptized a Catholic after having faithfully attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church (after other parishes) for 69 years.

Joe will be remembered for his great story-telling ability, his quick wit, his selfless love of family and undying love for his sweetheart. Joe had a great sense of adventure and was incredibly intelligent and resourceful.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of 69 years, Roy; children, Robyn Hayes, Ogden; Kim (Robert) Stuart, West Point; Jim (Betty) Storey, West Point; Joseph Storey, Las Vegas, NV; Arlene (Ed) Myers, Mt. Carmel; David (Patty) Storey, Syracuse; ten grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.
