Asiel Williams Blair, 96, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Asiel was born April 18, 1920, to George Heber and Harriet May Williams Blair in Lewiston, Utah. He was the fourth of five children.
Asiel served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed at Victorville Army Air Base and Hobbs Army Airfield. Shortly after enlisting, he married June Pauline Hemming in Las Vegas, Nevada. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Asiel began working as a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad shortly before World War II, and upon his discharge, continued his employment until his retirement in 1981. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Sunday school president, stake clerk, and bishop. He was always a faithful home teacher. He and June served for 16 years as church-service missionaries in the membership locator files.
Asiel is survived by his wife, June; three daughters, Gail June (Richard) Mitchell, Susan Kay (George) Foster, and Ellen (Donald) Payne; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Asiel Blair.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the North Park Chapel (202 West 1675 North, Layton). Friends may visit family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Bountiful, Utah.
