Aud Anita Nilsen Gidley

Aud Anita Nilsen Gidley, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in Ogden, Utah. She was 94 years old.
Aud was born on January 12, 1923 in Haugesund, Norway to parents Hans Ove Nilsen and Olga Mathilde Bergh. She graduated from business school before immigrating to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1949.
She married H. Don Gidley on April 5, 1950 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had six daughters. After Don’s passing in 1968, Aud continued caring for her children and also ran Don’s Vacuum Villa in Ogden as sole proprietor where she was affectionately known as “The Vacuum Lady.” She retired in January, 2004 after 36 years serving the community. Of her many accomplishments, Aud served as president of several organizations including: Parent Teacher Association, Northern Utah Electrical Association, and Sons of Norway Odin Lodge 101. She also served as ward librarian, chorister, and choir member for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as other callings. Aud could always be found reading, gardening, dancing with the Dancing Grannies, or doing genealogical research in her spare time. She cherished her six children and their husbands, 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, never missing a birthday or special occasion. Aud enjoyed sharing her Norwegian heritage with her family and friends, especially at Christmas time.
Aud is survived by her sister, Enid (Curt) Dahlén; brother, Hans Ove (Nancy) Nilsen; and her sister, Ranveig Nilsen; daughter, Linda (Lowell) Lyon; daughter, Eileen Gidley; daughter, Karen (Greg) Applonie; daughter, Rebecca (Ken) McDonald; daughter, Betty (Kevin) Tanner; daughter, Audra (Keith) Quimby. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Don Gidley; her brother, Arvid Nilsen; father, Hans Ove Nilsen; mother, Olga Mathilde Bergh Nilsen; and grandchildren, Lise Nani McDonald, and Richard Bryce Lyon.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley 3rd Ward, 5640 South 850 East, South Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. A family dinner will follow the interment.
