Farmington- Larry (Doc) Jung,75, passed away peacefully January 3, 2011 with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with heart disease.
Larry was born Dec. 11, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of August (Gus) and Johanna Jung, where he had a loving and adventurous childhood.
He came to Utah State University to pursue a career in Forestry, where he met the love of his life Joy Zilles. They married Sept. 21, 1956. He then changed his career goals to medicine. After completing his education at the University of Utah, he founded the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the U of U hospital in 1968, where he became the director and later a professor. He lectured across the nation and mentored many. He finished his legendary career in 2009.
Larry was a very talented man who excelled at everything he put his hand to including; photography, painting, sculpting and taxidermy. He had a passion for the great outdoors, fishing, camping and hunting with friends and family. His sweetheart, children and grandchildren were the joy of his life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survived by his wife Joy of 55 yrs; his mother Johanna; 3 children, sons Larry Jr. (Beth), Mike (Robbin) and daughter Susan; 9 grandchildren, Holden, Heidi, Alyssa, Kelsey, Brenden, Hayden, Austen, Tanner and Abby. Preceded in death by his father, oldest daughter Christine, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
Special and heartfelt thanks to family and all the caregivers at the U of U Hospital and Promise Care Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the U of U Neonatal Care Center can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank in the name of August L. Jung M.D. (NBICU U of U.)
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 8 at 12:00 p.m. at Steed Creek Chapel 347 South 200 West in Farmington. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 7 at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
