Avice Mathias Wood
Avice Mathias Wood, 82, of Kaysville, Utah died on March 9, 2010 from complications of cancer treatment. She was born February 25, 1928 in Winnemucca Nevada to Oral Reeves Mathias and Edna Constance Graves Mathias. The family moved to Ogden Utah where Avice graduated from Ogden High School and was active in theatre and drama. She attended Weber State College for one year on a theatre scholarship. At age 21 she worked for two years in Guam through Hill AFB where she was also active as a USO entertainer, performing to 47,000 people there.
She married Theron Wood on January 20, 1956 and they were later sealed in the Ogden Temple. Avice was a member of the LDS church most recently serving as the visiting teaching supervisor. She also cherished her membership in Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority for 62 years and was surrounded by dear friends in that chapter.
She was employed at Hill AFB, IRS, and the Davis County Sheriff''s office. She also served for two years on the North Davis Planning Commission.
Avice lived a full and active life. She loved reading, travel, family togetherness, writing road shows and plays, bowling, and photography to name just a few.
Avice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Theron and brother Boyd. She is survived by her sons Kevin (Bountiful), Doug (Magna), daughter Lisa (Neil) Willey (Springville), and son Scott (California), and four grandchildren Jacque Wood, Brian Wood, Aliesha Willey and Dustin Willey. Also surviving is her dear sister LaPriel Loney of Ogden.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the LDS chapel on 875 East 200 North in Kaysville. Friends and family may call Sunday, March 14th from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel.
