Barbara Cummings Cox, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Fairfield Village in Layton, Utah.
Barbara was born along with her twin sister Beverly on April 1, 1926 in Santa Monica, California, the daughter of Elmer W. Cummings and Anna Christina Nuffer. Her mother passed away when Barbara was only two and soon after she moved to Preston, Idaho, where she grew up and attended school. Throughout her life she continued to hold many fond memories of Preston and her childhood there.
On March 17, 1948, Barbara married Keith E. Cox in the Logan Temple. Barbara and Keith were blessed with six children, five daughters and one son. The family loved to camp in their trailer, enjoying yearly trips to Bear Lake and the mountains to fish and hunt, along with various other vacations.
She was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Savior, the prophet, her scriptures, and studying Come Follow Me with her neighbors. She loved to hear about the young men and young women from her Ward when they were called to serve missions and thoroughly enjoyed attending their missionary meetings before they left.
Barbara worked at the Defense Depot, the IRS, and JC Penney. After retirement she enjoyed traveling around the world with her husband and collecting mugs, pins, or other memorabilia to remind her of all the places they visited. She also enjoyed 10K walks and participated in 300 such walks.
Barbara loved her family and never missed recognizing a birthday. You could always count on a card and a check. She enjoyed planting and taking care of the beautiful flowers in her yard. She was an avid gardener who took great care of her pear and apple trees and enjoyed sharing the harvest with family and neighbors.
Barbara is survived by one son and four daughters; Deanna Baugh; Denise (Mike) Maisak; Blair (Judy) Cox; Annette (Greg) Vernon; Lori (Kevin) Fox; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by an older brother, Donald Cummings. She was preceded in death by her husband Keith, infant daughter Julie Ann, son-in-law Bruce Baugh, her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
The family would like to thank Fairfield Village and Inspiration Hospice for all that they did for Mom.
A private viewing and celebration of life will be held.
