Barbara Hammon

Barbara Simmons Hammon

1932- 2017

Barbara returned to her loving Heavenly Father on December 15, 2017 to be reunited with her sweetheart Ken. Barbara was 85 years old. She was born to Clarence and Ruth Simmons in Los Angeles California.  Barbara’s first marriage was to Ronald Clark Wiberg. They later divorced. On April 24, 1968 she married Kenneth Hammon Sr., the love of her life, and was later sealed to him for time and all eternity in the Ogden Temple. Ken and Barb loved the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they served a mission at Martin’s Cove and worked as temple ordinance workers which brought them a lot joy. In addition, she fulfilled many church callings including being in the Relief Society Presidency, teaching Gospel Doctrine, and acting as the Compassionate Service Leader.

Barbara’s happiest years were spent working alongside Ken as they ran a successful farm and broodmare ranch. She was the heartbeat of the barn and ran a tightly-run operation. Her life was surrounded by horses and family. In her younger days, she drove sugar beet trucks, rode in the Boots and Saddles Riding Club, and trained race horses with Ken. She owned several beloved horses throughout her life including Four Square, Bob’s Patty, Current Concept, Utah Bar Bob, and Ernie.

Barbara was known for her stunning rose garden, her famous chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and her delicious pumpkin pies. Barbara created beautiful, rich oil paintings depicting quaking aspens, pine trees, and the picturesque mountain scenes that she loved. An avid reader, Barbara loved a good mystery and political intrigue. She was a consummate news junkie and could tell you everything that was happening in the world.

Barbara loved children as is evidenced by her blended family of 14 children, 55 grandchildren, 97 great grandchildren, and 13 great, great grandchildren. She would fuss over the babies and love them with all her heart, even if they weren’t hers. She leaves behind a legacy of genuine motherly love; an example for all.

Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ken, her parents Ruth and Clarence Simmons, her brother Glenn Simmons, her stepson Jeff Hammon, and her grandson Dusty Simmons. Barbara is survived by her sister, Fran (Garald) Yates, and her children and stepchildren Terri (Steve) Marberger, Kathy (Jerry) Simmons, Mark (Celeste) Hammon, Sue (Ron) Pedersen, Ronnie (Cathy) Wiberg, Merrie (Clyde) Lindeman, Stephen Hammon, Michael (Mary) Hammon, Tricia (Terry) Anderson, Jill Hammon, James (Marti) Hammon, Kenny (Jessaca) Hammon, Danny (Courtney) Hammon, and her daughter-in-law Lily Hammon.

The Hammon family would like to thank Beehive Homes for providing such loving care in her final days.
