BARBARA DAVIS HIRSCHI
1929-2015
Barbara Davis Hirschi, 85, a long-time resident of North Salt Lake, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Barbara was born in Brigham City, Utah on May 28, 1929 to Louise Oyler and Vinson F. Davis Jr.
Barbara grew up in Perry, Utah, where she worked and played on the family farm. She served as the secretary of a local fireside chat group, while Dellas Rulon Hirschi served as president. They began dating, fell in love, and were married on September 21, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. The couple made their home in Perry, near the Hirschi family fruit farm, where Dellas helped out. In 1959, they moved to North Salt Lake, where they raised their six daughters.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barbara held many callings. She served as a Primary president, a Primary teacher, Cub Scout leader, and spent time in the Stake Young Women presidency. She served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 17 years.
Barbara worked for the Davis County School District in the school lunch program. She also worked as a nursing assistant and as a dental receptionist. She loved to travel, and her favorite trips were to Hawaii with her husband, and to Israel and the Holy Land with friends from the temple.
Barbara taught her girls to be independent by example. She sewed clothing for the family, baked her own bread, cooked meals, and grew fruits and vegetables which she canned and stored for the winter. She loved to quilt, crochet, and tat, and made many blankets, afghans, and doilies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was serving in the temple, and she was dedicated to the gospel. She planted and cared for a beautiful flower garden every spring, and loved classical music and crossword puzzles. She taught her girls to love those same skills and hobbies, which they have all passed to their own children. Barbara created a legacy in her family of working hard, persevering, and creating beautiful memories.
Barbara’s life was guided and shaped by her love of her family and the Savior. She had faith in Him, and in the restored gospel, and is now reunited with her beloved husband, whom she hadn’t seen in nearly thirty years. She will be missed, but her family knows that they, too, will be with her again.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Gordon F. Davis; her children, Delene (Joe) Anderson, Eileen (Rick) Fausett, Peggy (Keith) Kerby, Pamala (Chris) Shaw, Dawn (Tai) Nguyen, Alison (Jeff) Haas; 31 grandchildren, and 61 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dellas, brothers Darrell, Roy, and Gary Davis, and sisters Geraldine Simper, Judy Ensign, and Donna Bywater.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 a. m. in the LDS Chapel at 3317 S. 800 W. Bountiful. Family will meet with friends on Monday, April 6, from 6 to 8 p. m. at Lindquist Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, and Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
