Barbara Dean Hill Horton

Barbara Dean Hill Horton died Friday, December 23, 2016, at her home in Spanish Fork, Utah.

She was born September 12, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Von and Maxine Chambers Hill.  She married Lowell E. Horton on October 13, 1951 in Evanston, Wyoming.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, two daughters, Merlene (Joe) Kirby of Mapleton, Debbie (Dave) Gordon of Payson, one son, George (Elizabeth) Horton of Anchorage, Alaska, and ten grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one grandson.

Barbara graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1947 and also received a degree in Apparel Design at Diablo Valley Community College in Pleasant Hill, California, in 1978.  She designed and made wedding dresses for both daughters and one granddaughter.

Barbara led and active life.  She was a champion bowler in Vernal and Ogden and served as a Pink Lady volunteer in Concord, California and Ogden, Utah for several years.  She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary in Ogden and served as District President in Vernal, Utah.

Barbara loved sports.  She watched her grandchildren play whenever she could.  She especially loved baseball.  They had season tickets to the Ogden Raptors and she scored the World Series Games at home for 30 plus years.  She was excited about the rise of a relative’s career to the major leagues.

There will be no funeral services.  Cremation arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.   In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs of Mountain View Hospital, Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, Aspire Hospice, and to the staff of Legacy House of Spanish Fork where she has lived for the past three years.
