BARBARA BROWN LAROCQUE
1929 - 2017
Our beautiful and precious mother, Eva Barbara Tidwell Brown LaRocque, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 5, 2017 of causes incident to age. After 88 years of loving everyone, her body just wore out. She was born in Smithfield, Utah on April 1, 1929 to Frank and Eva Tidwell and was the fourth of five children. She attended North Cache High School where she was an excellent student.
She met Gordell A. Brown while attending college at Utah State University. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on September 25, 1950 and were later blessed with five children that they raised in Farmington, UT. They had been married for 60 years. After the passing of our father, she married James P. LaRocque, and they have been happily married for the past six years.
After the children were grown, mom worked for the IRS in Ogden, UT as a tax examiner and then later worked in Silver Springs, MD for Mail Handlers as a receptionist while her husband worked for the federal government in Washington, DC.
Mom was a lady full of energy and fun in her younger years. She enjoyed primping and riding her horses in Farmington Fiesta Day parades, barrel racing, planting beautiful flowers, and canning and sewing for the county fairs almost every year. Her homemade bread and raspberry jam were out of this world! She was a 4-H teacher in our neighborhood and taught her excellent sewing skills to friends of her children. Mother seemed to always be actively involved in ward or stake functions, especially roadshows and music festivals. She was a talented lady with a beautiful singing voice and she loved to play the piano. She tried fervently to pass these talents on to her children who, at the time, were just too lazy to practice. Through her teenage years and up through her adult senior years, she faithfully journaled life’s precious moments. She dedicated her life to her family making wonderful memories that will last forever.
She is survived by her husband, James P. LaRocque, and five children: Shauna (Dee) Scheunemann, Robert (Shirley) Brown, Richard Brown, Barbara Ann Brown, Lisa (Keith) Varley and two step sons, Jim Jr. and Dennis LaRocque. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Eunice (Monte) Merrill and sister-in-law, Sheila (Norman) Burnett.
A viewing is scheduled on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with funeral services immediately following from 11:00-12:00 (Noon) at Lindquist Mortuary, 727 North 400 East, Bountiful, UT . Interment will be the Farmington City Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff and residents at Heritage Place for being so much a part of Barbara’s life. She loved you all dearly!
