On the morning of Saturday, January 27, 2018, Barbara Garner Leatherow, greeted her caregivers saying, “Today is a Happy Day!” Within a few hours she suffered a stroke and passed through the veil to be greeted by many beloved family members and friends.

Barbara was born at home on June 18, 1924, in Hooper, Utah, the daughter of Justin Alma and Sylvia Anderson Garner. She was the oldest of 16 children.

Over her 93, years, she shared many of her life stories of growing up in Hooper, thinning beets, living through the depression and having her husband involved in World War II.

Barbara met her husband William (Bill) Leatherow who was stationed in Hooper with The CCC’s. They were married on December 23, 1939 in Ogden, Utah. Following their marriage they lived in Hooper, Ogden, and eventually settled in North Ogden, Utah, in 1949 to the present. Over the years they became the parents of four children.

Barbara was a faithful member of the LDS Church. She served as a Primary Teacher, Relief Society Quilt Director, and as a visiting teacher.

Barbara loved to do hand quilting and made many beautiful quilts over the years.

Saturday evenings were set aside to watch the Lawrence Welk Show, which was her “Do Not Disturb Time” She enjoyed her daily glass of Tab with a slice of lemon.

Barbara is survived by her children, Wayne (Sandy) Leatherow, Don Leatherow, and Gaye (Jim) Hurst; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna McReavy and Janean Barnett.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill (2005); oldest son, LaMar (1989), grandson, Shon Leatherow; daughter-in-law, Mitzi Leatherow (2017); parents, and 13 siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.

We are very grateful for the many hours of service, kindness, and love shown to our mother over the years by family members and her neighbors.

Special thanks to Dr. Brannick Riggs for the years of healthcare he provided her.
