Barbara Winkelman Dyal McFarlin
1921 ~ 2011
Barbara Winkelman Dyal McFarlin, age 89, passed away on February 6, 2011 at her home in Kaysville, UT from complications of Alzheimer''s disease. Barbara was born on May 22, 1921 in Westville, Ohio to Harry and Elizabeth Grimes. Growing up she loved to play sports and was on the 1936 Westville High School championship basketball team. She graduated Valedictorian from Westville High School in 1939. Barbara went on to graduate from business school and was hired as a secretary at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. There she met Grant Winkelman of Mt. Pleasant, UT. They were married on November 9, 1941 in Westville, OH. They were blessed with four children, Grant Jr., Dane, Sue and Kay. Grant passed away in 1969 after a battle with colon cancer. In 1972 Barbara married Ken Dyal who passed away suddenly in 1978. Barbara married Ralph McFarlin on July 16, 1983. They were married for 27 years.
Barbara was a talented vocalist and musician playing the viola, violin and piano. She also enjoyed leading choirs and did so for years. She was also an ongoing member of the Kaysville Fine Arts Club from the 1950''s. Barbara had a miraculous green thumb and spent many hours in her yard, which always looked spectacular. She had a rule that she had to pull at least one weed on her way to the mailbox every day. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many capacities throughout her life both in the ward and stake levels. She was also an Ordinance worker at the Oakland, California Temple. She was an expert and meticulous homemaker as well as a lavish entertainer. Her cooking is legendary.
Barbara was survived by husband Ralph McFarlin, sons Grant and Dane Winkelman, sons-in-law Kevin Flamm and Lyonal Bates, step-sons Terrance and Tim Dyal and Scott McFarlin, and step-daughter Debbie Scott. As well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by husbands Grant Winkelman and Ken Dyal and daughters Sue Bates and Kay Flamm.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 1085 N. 50 E. (Fairfield and Mutton Hollow Road). Friends may visit family on Wednesday from to 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Thursday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Mt. Pleasant, Utah Cemetery.
