BARBARA INEZ MOON STACK
October 28, 1928 – January 14, 2014
LAYTON - Barbara was born on a crisp October morning at the home of her grandparents in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. It happened to be the last day of the deer hunt season and her father, Harold Thurman Holt, was hoping for a big buck, instead he got a beautiful baby girl, to the delight of her mother, Inez Marion Davidson.
During her lifetime, she endured and overcame many adversities including the hardships and learning experiences of growing up in the mining town of Sweets, Utah. As her siblings would concur, she walked to school in several feet of snow, naturally uphill in both directions. She learned how to be frugal as a child by enduring the hardships of the Great Depression with her family. In spite of this, she continually spoke of happy memories, saying her family was always happy because until much later in her life, she didn’t know how poor she actually was.
Barbara came from sturdy pioneer stock because her great, great, grandmother, Mary Young Wilcox, was one of the first settlers in Salt Lake City. She demonstrated this strong, and perhaps stubborn pioneer spirit her entire life. She learned about hard work and perseverance at a very young age, and taught her family these values as well.
Her favorite pastimes included camping, fishing, dancing, traveling the world, and spending time with her friends and family. She was particularly interested in being involved with the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara met her first husband, Carl Wesley Moon, after WWII and married him in July of 1945. Carl passed away in January, 1977. They had two children; Bonnie Moon Williams and Dennis Wesley Moon (Julie). Dennis passed away in November, 2009.
Barbara worked for over 30 years as a civil servant at Hill Air Force Base. It was during this time, that she met her second husband, Raymond J. Stack, at the NCO Club on Base in 1978. Raymond and Barbara were married on leap day in February of 1992. They loved to travel together and especially enjoyed their trips during the winter months to visit friends in Mazatlan, Mexico.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Raymond J. Stack, her daughter, Bonnie Moon Williams (Scott), stepson, Michael Stack, brothers, Boyd M. Holt and Robert Holt, sister, Linda L. Dooms (Bill), grandchildren, Marcia Engstrom Flocken, Jason T. Moon (Jada), Sunny Williams (Chad Bryant), Sheriden Moon Hansen (Wayne), Daron S. Williams, and Preston W. Moon; great grandchildren, Jordan L. Flocken, David S. Flocken, Castor D Williams, Jagger Moon, Halen Moon, Will Hansen, and Ian Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Wendell and Evan Holt, her husband, Carl W. Moon, and her son, Dennis Wesley Moon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road where friends may visit with the family from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
